OVERVIEW, HISTORY AND FUNDING

History and Management

The Parish Centre was created by the refurbishment of the old Mellor Primary School building in 1999/2000.The core of the building was created as an all-age school in 1880, the foundation stone being laid by Richard Arkwright, of the famous textile family. The old school experienced various changes of status, and a number of extensions and alterations, until in 1995 Stockport MBC provided a purpose-built primary school on the Knowle Road site.

This gave the Parish Church Council a wonderful opportunity to create the thriving and busy Centre for the whole community which exists today.

There are two groups involved in the running of the Centre:

The Friends of the Parish Centre organise a wide range of events to raise funds for the maintenance and further development of the Centre, and to increase the use and awareness of the Centre and its facilities among the local and wider community.

The Parish Centre Management Committee is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Centre, looking after finances, lettings, staffing, maintenance and repair work, and on-going improvements and developments.

Both committees rely on hardworking volunteers, who may or may not be involved with the church. The usual term of membership is three years – it is not a lifetime commitment!

Contact the Centre if you feel that you have something to offer to either of our committees.
