‘PARISH CENTRE FRIENDS EVENTS’

The new committee who were elected at the AGM are now in the process of planning the 2012 programme. Full details of each event will be published in due course but the first two dates for your diary are:-

Saturday 24th March  A Rubber Bridge Drive  1.30 pm to 5.00 pm

Tickets are now available from Val Wallace (427 4900) at £5 per person or £18 per table and includes homemade refreshments. As this is an Open Bridge Drive we would like to welcome as many bridge players as possible to this event but tickets should be reserved by Tuesday 20th March.

Saturday 14th AprilTextile Journeys - Special Event

As you may remember, last year Rosemary Hawksley, Kitty Watt and I organised a very successful textile event.  We have organised a similar event this year to be held on Saturday April 14th from 10.00am to 4.00pm, at the Parish Centre.

Dilys Fronks is a world famous quilter.  She will give a talk entitled ‘From Non-Sewer to Author via the Scenic Route’ that begins the day for all delegates.  She will also lead a workshop entitled ‘Painting with Fabric – A Vase of Flowers’.

We are thrilled that Gail Marsh, curator of the Rachel Kay -Shuttleworth (RBKS) Collection at Gawthorpe Hall, has agreed to join us.  Gail will lead a workshop on Wessex Embroidery.  Her colleague, Tracy Gill, is the Education Liaison Officer for the RBKS collection.  Tracy’s workshop is entitled ‘Inspired to Create’.  Delegates will have the opportunity to view some of the treasures from the RBKS collection and will create their own small sample of embellished textiles.

The fourth workshop will be led by Alice Hutchinson, a local textile artist, who led a similar workshop last year.  Her workshop, entitled ‘Three Stitches – a Passport to Embroidery’ will particularly appeal to beginners.

The cost will be £35.00, including lunch.  Booking opens on Wednesday 1st February.  Further information and application forms are available now from Meg Barley (0161 427 4370). We look forward to seeing many local enthusiasts, but we also anticipate a keen interest in this event from further afield.  Get your applications in quickly to secure your place and to get into your preferred workshop!

This event is organised by The Friends of Mellor Parish Centre Committee whose  profits go towards the maintenance and development of the Centre.
