‘PARISH CENTRE FRIENDS EVENTS’

Kath Threlfall

The Friends of Mellor Parish Centre is a group that exists to raise funds for the upkeep of the Centre. We do this by charging a modest subscription of £5 a year to all our members and  by putting on a variety of events throughout the year, open to all. Would you consider becoming a Friend ?

The cost of keeping the Centre in good condition is enormous, so revenue from the entertainments arranged by the Friends committee is invaluable.  Events enjoyed by the local community in the past few years have included the very popular Opera Galas, themed evenings and talks on various topics such as mountaineering and gardening. £8000 was raised in 2011 from a hugely varied calendar of events, namely Bridge Drives, talks, a recital of English Song, Textile Journeys (a day of speakers and workshops), a band, a Norwegian Evening, an American Thanksgiving Evening and a Christmas Concert. Something for everyone. The Friends also support  other fund-raising events such as the wonderful Mellor Open Gardens Day ( happening again in June 2012 ) and the Mellor Archaeological Dig weekends.

For their £5 subscription members receive advance notice and booking for all events, a regular newsletter  and the satisfaction of knowing they are supporting this wonderful community resource.
